NEW DELHI: The decision to ban diesel vehicles that don’t confirm to BS-VI when Air Quality Index (AQI) is in the “severe-plus” category as part of the new Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has come as a bolt from the blue for NCR residents, who said private cars shouldn’t be treated equally to commercial ones.
Rajiv Kakria, a GK-I resident and convener of Save Our City campaign, claimed, “There is no empirical evidence that diesel cars pollute to that extent. We are soft targets, which makes it seem that the authorities are doing something. We are also concerned about air pollution, but harping on diesel vehicles is based on exaggerated figures. Why don’t they curtail flights during these months and have an odd-even for aircraft?”
