Delhi: 4,500 suggestions on budget, education and health dominate

NEW DELHI: If you have any suggestions or interesting ideas that the Delhi government can implement while making its budget for 2022-23, Tuesday is the last day to share your opinions.

Last month, Delhi government had sought public participation to prepare the budget and till Sunday, it has received more than 4,500 suggestions largely related to education, health and economic growth.

“The government has introduced participatory budgeting for more transparency, accountability and people-first governance,” an official said.

The last date for submitting suggestions is February 15, as the budget session will be planned for the last week of March, sources said.

Those interested in sharing their ideas can write to the finance department by clicking on a link given on the homepage of Delhi government’s website.

“We have initiated the process of preparing the budget for the financial year 2022-23. We want to know your views and suggestions on what new schemes should the government introduce and what improvements should be made to the ongoing schemes using your tax money. These will be included in the next year’s budget,” chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said in a message, which is also mentioned on the website.

The topics on which Delhi government has sought ideas from the public are helping traders and businessmen, attracting international buyers to Delhi markets, boosting the city’s economy, creating of new jobs, increasing income of Delhiites, providing access to healthcare and education to everyone, making women feel safer, reduce pollution and beautify the city.

Delhi’s revenue collection suffered a shortfall of 34% in 2020-21 due to severe restrictions to check the spread of coronavirus. 2021-22 fiscal also began on a weak note due to Covid’s second wave and ensuing curbs. Officials, however, said the revenue collection in the ongoing financial year would be better than the previous one. The government is focusing on developing Delhi as a hub of business and services in 2022-23.
