Long buried Cold War documents are once again fuelling one of the biggest mysteries in modern history after researchers claimed newly examined declassified files reveal a coordinated US government effort to recover unidentified flying object debris.

The records centre on Project Moondust and its partner programme, Operation Bluefly, both genuine Air Force initiatives that handled the recovery of fallen foreign objects during the Cold War.
