Declan Rice sends cryptic message to Jesse Lingard after Manchester United departure

Declan Rice has delivered a cryptic message to departing Manchester United star Jesse Lingard as he prepares to embark on a new adventure this summer.

After spending 20 years at Old Trafford man and boy, Lingard will depart when his contract expires this month and clubs are understood to be queuing up for his services. Among them are West Ham after the 29-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell there during the 2020/2021 season.

Combining to devastating effect with Rice - who has been identified as a target for United to move the other way - Lingard scored nine goals and provided five assists in 16 matches for the Hammers. It put him back on the map, but his time with United is now coming to an end.

A reunion with former United manager Jose Mourinho at Roma has been mooted - while Saudi-backed Newcastle could once again come calling after seeing a late January move for the player blocked. Set to become a free agent, Lingard will not cost those clubs or other potential suitors a fee.

Addressing his 9.6million followers on Instagram, the academy graduate uploaded several images training alone as he seeks a new club. An edited caption, featuring a steam nose and strong arms emoji, read: "Why stop now."

His post drew thousands of likes and comments with England player Rice adding his own reply while away with the Three Lions on Nations League duty. He said: "Hate is a waste of emotion!"
