'Death to the Dictator': Iranians chant after a night of protests

Videos shared on social media show protesters setting fire to a police kiosk in Tehran during demonstrations that have spread to several cities across Iran.

Crowds are heard chanting slogans such as “death to the dictator” and “death to Khamenei” in protests initially sparked by the rising cost of living.

The protests mark one of the most serious challenges to the Islamic Republic in more than four decades, with demonstrators openly calling for an end to its theocratic rule.

So far, violence around the demonstrations has killed at least 42 people while more than 2,270 others have been detained, said the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.
