Police are treating the death of a pregnant woman who was found dead in a flat in Glasgow as "suspicious".
Marelle Sturrock, 35, was discovered dead after police were called to a property on Jura Street in Govan amid concern for a person at 8.40am on Tuesday. The teacher, originally from Wick in Caithness, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers have now confirmed that her death is being treated as suspicious. Cops say their enquiries remain ongoing.
Officers have also been carrying out extensive search activity at Mugdock Country Park in relation to a man who has been reported missing in the area.
This is being treated as linked to the death of Marelle Sturrock and searches remain ongoing in the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Cheryl Kelly said: “Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, as well as everyone affected by this tragic incident. We are providing her family with support at this incredibly difficult time as our investigation to establish the full circumstances continues.
“A visible police presence will remain at both locations as our work continues. There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public but I would urge anyone with information or concerns to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25 or speak to any of our officers.”
Earlier we told how Marelle's colleagues raised the alarm after she failed to show up for work.
Friends of Marelle, who was a teacher at Sandwood Primary School in Glasgow, had gone to the 35-year-old's house on Tuesday morning but became concerned when she didn't answer the door.
Neighbour Alex Collie told the Daily Record his wife saw the expectant mum's worried colleagues at her house.
He said: “My wife walked past when they were at the house. They were knocking on the door and seemed worried. I think concern was raised when she didn’t show up for work.
"A few hours later we saw the police here. We got the shock of our life when we heard what had happened to Marelle. It’s tragic. I can’t believe it."
The Record understands a letter has been sent to staff and parents of pupils at Sandwood Primary School after the popular teacher's tragic passing.
Cops were seen swarming the woodland at Mugdock Country Park yesterday morning, with dog units and a helicopter in attendance. Images from the scene show a large section close to an entrance of the park taped off as the search operation continues for a second day.
