Dean Henderson injury: Crystal Palace fear months-long layoff ahead of second scan

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson is set for a second scan on his muscular injury, amid fears he could be out of action for a number of months.

Palace hope for positive news over their £20million summer signing but an initial scan last week suggested the injury to his right thigh was serious.

Henderson suffered the injury on his Palace debut in last Tuesday’s Carabao Cup defeat at his former club Manchester United.

Henderson has suffered from a thigh issue in the past but scans have shown he has not sustained the same injury that kept him out at Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

Palace manager Roy Hodgson said last week: “The initial scan wasn’t very positive. Maybe we’ll be lucky [with his follow-up scan] in that it will show somewhat less damage than the first one, but it didn’t look like good news.

“He’s devastated”, Hodgson added. “He’s been excellent in training, so good in the month we’ve had with him where he’s not had a chance to play. To pick up an injury is absolutely devastating for him. I couldn’t have written a worse scenario.

“Both he and we can only hope that it’s not as serious as the first scan shows. Whatever the length of the break he’s now got to take from football, it’s really come at the wrong time.”
