Deaf mum told husband was dead on Facetime call as paramedics didn't know sign language

A deaf mum has described the traumatic moment she had to video call a colleague to find out her husband had died, because paramedics could not use sign language.

Elizabeth Corbett rushed home after a panicked FaceTime call from her children, aged nine and 11, saying their dad wouldn’t wake up, only to find the air ambulance had arrived and paramedics were trying to revive David, 51, refusing to let Elizabeth in the house.

Distraught Elizabeth, from Chellaston, Derby, was kept in the dark about what had happened as medics were unable to communicate with her using British Sign Language (BSL).
