The holidays are just around the corner and one central Kentucky organization is getting ready for the gift-giving season. The deadline to sign up for the Lexington Firefighter’s Toy Program is Tuesday.
Any Lexington resident with children ages 12 and younger can apply to receive gifts.
Chris Macfarlane is President of the Lexington Fraternal Order of Firefighters and oversees the toy program. He said people do not have to prove their need to sign up for toys.
“If you need help this year, we’re going to help you. And the firefighters for 92 years have done that. We never ask anyone if they can afford it or not. If you just need a leg up for the year, need a little bit of help, we’re going to do that. And next year you may not need it and you can donate a toy,” said Macfarlane.
To sign up, people must bring their IDs, birth certificates for their children and a bill proving Lexington residency. People can sign up at 3475 Blazer Parkway in Lexington from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
If you’re in a position to, Macfarlane says there are several ways to donate gifts.
“If you’re in Lexington, you can buy a new, unwrapped toy and drop it off at any fire station. We have 24 fire stations here in Lexington, they’re easy to find. There’s a herby out in front of them that has our toy program sticker on the front, you can drop the toys in there, we will get those delivered to the North Pole. We also have the Amazon program,” said Macfarlane.
Macfarlane said people can visit their Amazon Wish List, purchase a toy and have it delivered to the "North Pole" at 3475 Blazer Parkway.
