AURANGABAD: After a few spells of unseasonal rainfall last week, when the temperatures had dropped, the mercury level has now returned to normal in Aurangabad.
On Monday, the Aurangabad city recorded 35 degrees Celsius as maximum temperature, which is in keeping with the normal. At 18.8 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature in Aurangabad was also in the normal range. Among other Marathwada cities, Parbhani reported a maximum temperature of 36.9 degrees Celsius on Monday, which was among the highest in the region.
Last week, the maximum temperature in Aurangabad had dropped almost eight units below the normal, giving people some respite from the heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has made a forecast of further rise in temperature by around two units over the next few days.
K K Dakhore, the agricultural meteorologist at the Parbhani-based Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University, said the sky is likely to remain clear for the next week. “The clear sky will lead to the further onset of summer, with mercury level set to go up. However, no heatwave is expected as of now,” he said.
The rise in heat has brought some relief to the mango growers who had claimed damage to crops due to the recent adverse weather conditions. “Summer heat is essential for proper growth of mangoes. The mangoes are ripe on trees at several places in Marathwada. Typical summer temperature is required for a good yield,” said Prashant Beedkar, who owns mango trees.
