Day of action in Craigneuk results in arrests and warnings for mistreatment of dogs

A day of action in one area of Wishaw resulted in two arrests and warnings given for the mistreatment of dogs.

Police targeted several streets in Craigneuk during a day of action in the area which highlighted that certain residents were not adhering to the terms of their tenancy agreements.

Area Inspector Alan Mulholland told Lanarkshire Live that his officers "continue to act on information" regarding criminal activity in the Craigneuk area.

He told us : "I want to send a message of reassurance to the community regarding our efforts and a warning to those who continue to act in a criminal or anti-social manner.

“Community and CID officers from Wishaw have been in and around the area of Craigneuk and continue target those involved in criminality.

“We have been engaged with our partners at NLC housing, antisocial behaviour teams, estates and environmental health to combat the people who are continuing to act in an antisocial manner and abuse or exploit the community to drug misuse.”

The day of action resulted in a number of interventions regarding householders warned, intelligence noted and also highlighted issues surrounding the mistreatment of dogs.

Police are now working closely with the Scottish SPCA and are fully on board to support them in disrupting anyone found mistreating animals.

There was also two people arrested on warrant and many people were spoken to which allows officers to develop community intelligence around particular areas of concern.

Inspector Mulholland added: “Officers will continue to patrol the area in uniform and plain clothes patrols and I would encourage the local people to speak to the community policing team and inform them of any concerns they may have.

“If anyone has information that will support the Police and our partners in disrupting the people causing concern, I would ask that they call 101 and discuss in confidence with an officer.”

Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
