Caitlin Clark’s historic dominance is leaving so many across the sports world speechless, including South Carolina women’s basketball head coach Dawn Staley, who couldn’t find words after discovering how much Caitlin Clark scored after breaking the NCAA scoring record.
While South Carolina was in a challenging game against Rickea Jackson and Tennessee, Caitlin Clark was busy throwing up her signature threes and breaking records. Despite it being a neck-and-neck matchup until the fourth quarter, the Gamecocks were able to pull away, keeping their undefeated streak alive. Unfortunately, coaching that game meant Staley missed Caitlin Clark’s historic moment.
However, during postgame questions, she asked the media if Clark had broken the record and how many points she had. The answer she received back left her flabbergasted. Clark had 23 points in the first quarter and finished with 49 points — tying her career-high — and 13 assists. She also had nine 3-point shots.
