After it was revealed that Dave Grohl had fathered a child “outside of his marriage,” past comments made by his ex-girlfriend have resurfaced.
Snowboarder Tina Basich opened up about her relationship with the Foo Fighters frontman, and how he allegedly cheated on her, in her 2003 memoir. In the book, titled Pretty Good for a Girl: The Autobiography of a Snowboarding Pioneer, the athlete explained that she dated Grohl for two years in the late ‘90s after his divorce from his first wife, Jennifer Youngblood. According to Basich, she ended the relationship after discovering his infidelity.
The admission came more than two decades after the former Nirvana drummer publicly announced that had cheated on his wife of over 20 years, Jordyn Blum.
Basich explained in her memoir how “busy” Grohl was during their relationship, as he was in the middle of handling “multimillion-dollar record contracts, deadlines with record labels, music videos [and] press tours” while juggling being a musician.
“The pressure was too much for our relationship to handle,” she wrote, per an excerpt obtained by Page Six. “You can only give up so much of your heart and your career and your time and your spirit, and here I was, giving it all up for a guy and losing myself in the process.”
The athlete recalled feeling like she was negatively impacting his career, yet not realizing that she was putting his career above her own. Eventually, she discovered that he was allegedly dating someone else through a series of rumors.
“I don’t know how anyone in his profession can have a normal relationship with a girlfriend… or two, as it turned out,” Basich’s memoir read. “I found out secondhand, through the grapevine, when it seemed like everyone else in the world knew about it but me.”
She admitted to being “so disappointed and pissed” at herself “for being sucked in.”
“All I got was a five-minute phone call from him, after five weeks of me calling and trying to get ahold of him because I just had to know if these rumors were true and had to hear it straight from the source.”
Following their breakup, the musician met Jordyn Blum in 2001 at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey Bar. Grohl revealed in a 2007 interview with Elle that he stopped calling her after a couple of dates before restarting the relationship months later.
“When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,” he recalled. “After three months, I had a revelation and called her back. She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again.’”
They went on to marry in 2003 and have three children together: 18-year-old Violet Maye, 15-year-old Harper Willow, and 10-year-old Ophelia Saint.
On Tuesday, September 10, Grohl took to Instagram to reveal that he had an affair and fathered a child “outside of his marriage.”
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” he wrote in a statement on Instagram. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
Details have yet to be revealed about the new baby or the mother.
