Dave Cormack issues Aberdeen next manager update and reveals Alan Burrows will be involved

Alan Burrows will take part in Aberdeen’s search for a new manager – despite not starting in his new role as chief exec for another three weeks.

The Motherwell chief was announced as the incoming Pittodrie big wig last week after confirming he was stepping down from his long-serving role at his boyhood club earlier this year. The Dons have been seeking a new boss since sacking Jim Goodwin in January following a 6-0 mauling away to Hibs, hot on the heels of an embarrassing Scottish Cup fourth round exit against West of Scotland Premier League side Darvel.

Now Pittodrie chairman Dave Cormack has issued an update on how the recruitment process is going. The Aberdeen-born businessman insists it’s progressing well, while also hitting out at rumours he claims are wide of the mark regarding who’s in the frame for the hot seat.

Barry Robson is thought to be a leading contender, with the caretaker being tipped to take the reins until the end of the campaign. But Cormack hinted the process could last for another few weeks. He said: “Aberdeen FC’s recruitment for a new manager is progressing with potential candidates being considered against the detailed criteria and philosophy the club has set out.

"There has been a high level of interest as well as some unfounded speculation. It is vital that we carry out the necessary diligence in drawing up a short-list before embarking on any serious talks or interviews.

“Alan Burrows, who starts as chief executive on February 27, will be involved in the next steps. It’s important that we take our time and be patient. In the meantime, Barry Robson, supported by Steve Agnew and Scott Anderson, will continue to lead the first team and they are wholly focused on preparations for Saturday’s match.”
