Livingston-born double world champion Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright is aiming for a first major title in 18 months when he bid for World Matchplay success.
The 53-year-old has struggled to find consistency since sealing his second PDC World Championship crown in January 2022 but enters the prestigious event in Blackpool on decent form and seeded second.
Wright, alongside team-mate Gary Anderson, fell just short last month of guiding Scotland to a third World Cup of Darts title as they were beaten by Wales in the final. However, it marked a return to form for the flamboyant Wright who had finished bottom in the Premier League earlier in the year.
Wright, who won the event two years ago, has been handed a first round tie against Andrew Gilding with the winner progressing to face either 15th seed Ryan Searle or Raymond van Barneveld.
The action gets underway on Friday with the final taking place on July 23.
