Daring Edinburgh workmen spotted scaling Balmoral hotel in nail-biting video

Two Edinburgh workmen were spotted taking on a hair-raising challenge in the city centre this week which would not be one for the faint-hearted.

Captured on video, the pair were seen scaling the height of the Balmoral Hotel’s clock tower - nearly 200ft above Princes Street - for what appeared to be maintenance work.

Taken on Tuesday (July 5), the men were sporting high visibility clothing as they made their way up the flag pole to raise the Scottish flag above them.

Appearing to just be held on to the top of the tower with small ropes and harnesses, they could be seen blowing in the wind along with the flag as they got to work.

Hanging at a great height over the city, local resident Thomas McWilliams was quick to capture the moment on camera, before sharing the brave pair to social media.

Posting the clip, he said he had been watching from Waverley roof as the workmen appeared on the top of the clock tower.

Stunned at the images, many others were fast to respond with their admiration for the workers, with one user replying: "My legs turned to jelly watching this."

Another responded: "Harnessed on, still don't think I could do it, but must be amazing views."
