Fans and pundits have called for British heavyweight Danny Williams to stop fighting after he quit in the middle of his 86th professional fight.
Williams, 48, recently competed in Cologne, Germany against Djuar El Scheich, who has is undefeated in 15 fights with 14 wins by knockout. During the third round of the fight, Williams is seen having problems with his left eye before quitting in the middle of the round.
The referee waved off the fight and Williams walked back to his corner having just suffered the fifth defeat in his last six fights. It's clear the 'Brixton Bomber' is long past his heyday yet boxing commissions continue to sanction his fights.
Hall of Fame promoter Lou DiBella was among those to voice their concern for the 48-year-old as he slammed the "blood merchants" in boxing for allowing Williams to fight.
"Danny Williams just keeps on suffering brain damage, caused by the callousness of boxing blood merchants, enabled by rogue commissions and irresponsible regulation. This is the dark side of our sport and it’s f***ing disgusting," he wrote.
Users on social media also weighed in, with one writing: "This really is a sickening thing to see. "All involved in letting Danny Williams fight need putting in prison. Totally scandalous. If someone [doesn't] urgently save Danny from himself there's going to be a fatality."
Another wrote: "Honestly more than anything I feel bad for Danny. He must need the money or otherwise he wouldn't continue. A guy who really should be a legend of British boxing has been reduced to this. The guy beat Tyson! Is there a fundraiser to get him to quit?"
Williams is a former world title challenger but is mostly known for his upset KO win over Mike Tyson. In 2000, he won the British heavyweight title by knocking out Mark Potter with one arm after dislocating his shoulder during the bout.

The 48-year-old, who has been fighting professionally since 1995, has not fought in the UK for over a decade with most of his recent bouts taking place in Eastern Europe. Williams has previously spoken about his fears that boxing could kill him.
In 2018, Williams was stopped by Scottish lightweight Lee McAllister despite having a four-stone weight advantage in the fight. He told Boxing News after the fight: "I have wanted to retire for a long time but this is the end.
"There have been times going into the fight and I am in the changing room and have actually been scared. Not because I thought I was going to lose, but because I thought I was going to die."
