Danny Dyer 'still paying' for his 2016 wedding thanks to X-rated message for guests

Danny Dyer has joked he's 'still paying' off the cost of his wedding day from six years ago.

The EastEnders actor was discussing his nuptials to childhood sweetheart Joanne Mas when he revealed a very cheeky culinary choice they made at their reception.

Danny, 44, has explained how the happy couple opted for an expletive-ridden message to be displayed across the plates served to guests joining them in celebrating their special day back in 2016.

The dad-of-three also admitted he wonders "why the f**k" couples put themselves through the stress of a big wedding, as the day often becomes about "other people" and their wishes.

The Mick Carter actor and Jo tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony in Hampshire on 3 September 2016, with their three children - including Love Island star Dani Dyer - all present to watch their parents become husband and wife.

Chatting with his eldest child on their Spotify podcast series on Wednesday, Danny reflected on the day, as he and Dani tried to help a fan with a wedding-related dilemma.

"You had mini pie and mash on stick[at your wedding], didn’t you?" Dani recalled when reminiscing with her dad.

"Yeah and we had 'loved up to f**k' on the plates in chocolate," Danny revealed on Sorted with the Dyers.

"It was £120 per head - I'm still paying for it."

Prior to discussing his own special day, Danny pondered just why anyone wants to have a big wedding day.

As he and Dani discussed a bride-to-be's problem regarding her guest list, the West Ham fan discussed the politics attached to tying the knot.

"This is the thing, why the f**k do we get married?" Danny asked, with disappointed daughter chiming in to say: "No, no, no, no, it's a companionship."

He continued: "You know like, listen to Ruth [their listener's] f**king dilemma - you get married for other people. 'Oooh who's going to come? Who's going to sit where?' F**k all that."

Understanding her dad's point of view, Dani seemingly agreed, adding: "There's so many politics when it comes to the wedding. You do actually make it more about everyone else rather than you."

"Exactly," Danny declared.

"It's actually meant to be a celebration of your love, right, between you and someone else. But all of a sudden it becomes about ever other f**ker."

Speaking about his wedding day in the past, Danny revealed the total cost of the celebration set him back a whopping £125,000.

"We did a "magazine thing" [for the wedding]. We got about £125,000 for it. She spunked the lot," he confessed on The Jonathan Ross Show, adding: "I think I was in debt at the end of it."

Elsewhere during the interview, Danny discussed how long it took to get him down the aisle, despite meeting his wife they were just 13 years old

"I don't know what took me so long [to get married], really, it's crazy," he told host Jonathan Ross in 2018.

"[We've been together] thirty years. I appreciate it now, I get it.... she is incredible my wife."
