Danny Dyer 'embarrassed' after being caught stealing petrol and accusing garage of 'scam'

Danny Dyer has recalled a time when he did a runner from a petrol station by accident.

The EastEnders legend was stunned when he received what he thought was a scam letter through the post, accusing him of filling up without paying.

The actor, 44, charged down to the garage he'd been accused of conducting the 'crime' in and demanded answers.

But he was left red-faced when he realised he was in fact 'guilty as charged'.

Danny, who bows out of Albert Square soon, was talking on his podcast he hosts with daughter Dani - Sorted With The Dyers.

The Mirror reports he remembered the mortifying incident in detail as he told listeners what had happened.

Originally he'd called up a fraud company to report the scam but said he was getting nowhere, so went to the petrol station itself to get to the bottom of what was going on.

Danny explained that the previous week, he had filled up his car full of petrol worth £109.

When he entered the shop to pay for the petrol, he recalled getting distracted while trying to decide what to have for lunch.

After striking up a conversation with the cashier - who Danny described as 'a big fan of his' - he ultimately forgot to mention that he had filled his car up with petrol as he paid for his other lunch items.

Discussing the story on his podcast, Danny said he left the petrol station 'with his tail between his legs' after he realised his mistake.

"I did drive off without paying £109 to fill up my car," he revealed.

"I felt just a little bit embarrassed," he laughed.

Danny went on: "I paid for it and cleared it all up. It's all paid for now. But I walked out of that f**king petrol garage with my tail between my legs while clutching that fraud letter.

"I don't think I'll be going back there anytime soon."
