Daniel Radcliffe has said that he wouldn’t want his future children to experience the overwhelming fame he did.

The Harry Potter star was catapulted into the spotlight in 2000, after being cast as the lead in the wizarding film franchise at only 11 years old.

Radcliffe, 33, went on to star in 10 successful movies from the series based on the books by JK Rowling.

While he hopes any children he has can enjoy working in the film industry, he is desperate for them to avoid the pitfalls of fame and fortune.

Radcliffe, who has revealed he was an alcoholic at the height of his fame, told Newsweek: “I want my kids, if and when they exist...I would love them to be around film sets.

“A dream would be for them to come on to a film set and be like ‘God, you know, I’d love to be in the art department. I’d love to be something in the crew.’ Some part of this, but not from that.”

While the British actor said he “clearly” still has a passion for acting, he wants his children to “avoid at all costs” his suffocating stardom.

“I think if you can get a situation where you’re on film sets without necessarily [thinking] oh, this is gonna be a big deal in your life, that’s great,” Radcliffe said.

“Film sets are wonderful places. I think a lot of the time it can be wonderful for kids. But it’s really the fame side of it that should be avoided at all costs.”

Radcliffe previously opened up about his alcoholism, which was a coping mechanism during his teenage years at the peak of his Harry Potter fame.

“In my case, the quickest way to forget about the fact that you’re being watched is to get very drunk,” Radcliffe told Off Camera host Sam Jones.

“And then, as you get very drunk, you become aware that ‘Oh, people are watching more now because now I’m getting very drunk, so I should probably drink more to ignore that more.’”

Radcliffe said that he became sober in 2010 with the help of friends.

“Ultimately, it was my own decision,” he said. “Like I woke up one morning after a night going like, ‘This is probably not good.’”

Radcliffe has gone on to have a flourishing film career following his child acting days. He will next star in the biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which will be released in the UK on November 4.
