Dancing on Ice 2023: Darren Harriott suffers bloody skate blade injury in training

Dancing on Ice's Darren Harriott suffered a nasty injury while attempting to lift his professional partner in training. The comedian is taking part in the 2023 series of Dancing on Ice and has gained his first injury of the series ahead of his first live show.

Darren will skate for the first time on Sunday, January 22 with Love Island star Ekin-Su Culculoglu already in the skate-off having performed last week and receiving the least votes from the public. Hoping to avoid joining Ekin-Su in the skate off Darren has been working hard in training and injured his arm in the process.

Posting to his Instagram Darren said had he "sliced" his arm open and that he and his professional partner Tippy Packard didn't know how the accident happened. He posted a picture of his bandage and said: "Blade sliced my arm open during a lift...we think, we don't even know how it happened I didn't feel it..we just saw the blood lol."

Darren also reassured fans that he would still be skating on Sunday night. He said: "Still all good for Sunday!". The comedian first appeared on TV screens in 2016 on Stand Up Central for the channel Comedy Central.

His other TV credits include Live at the Apollo, Celebrity Mastermind, Richard Osman's House of Games and Roast Battle. In recent times he has also made regular appearances on the Love Island spin-off show Love Island: Aftersun- a new series of Winter Love Island has begun and you can read everything you need to know about the show here.

Speaking about appearing on the series, the comedian told Trisha Goddard on Talk TV: "I’ve got giant feet, I don't skate and I can't dance! My family has already made bets - they’re making bets that I’ll fall on the first episode!" Joining Darren on the ice for their first skate will be actress Carley Stenson, drag queen The Vivienne, Coronation Street star Mollie Gallagher and former footballer John Fashanu.

Dancing on Ice continues on ITV1 at 6.30pm on Sunday, January 22.
