Dan Orsi returns to Threave Rovers for full season

Dan Orsi will be back at Threave Rovers full-time next season.

The former Queen of the South, Dalbeattie Star and Glenafton man turned out for the Castle Douglas side last term when they had to play two games on the same day.

And he has now been convinced to play for the Meadow Park club on a more regular basis.

Boss Vinnie Parker said: “We wanted to get him in, we had a really positive chat and managed to make it work.

“He’s very experienced in the West of Scotland and he’s won the Scottish Junior Cup.

“He’s very physical, he knows the game and he’s an excellent pro as well. His attitude is top notch, he fits the values of the club and the squad.”

Former Dalbeattie Star man Jack Steele also helped out Threave in their time of need but he won’t be returning as he plays rugby for Dumfries Saints.

However, prolific forward Dean Brotherston has agreed a new deal, with Finlay Bainbridge and Declan Rogerson completing the summer transfer business.

Parker said: “Dean was excellent for us last year, he scored some really important goals and we’re happy to retain him.

“We’ve been tracking Finlay for a couple of seasons. We tried to sign him a couple of years ago but he was offered full-time at Queen of the South and Stirling Uni – he went to university.

“We kept in touch with him and we’ve managed to make it work. He’s one we’re really excited about and he’s a top, top guy as well.”

Threave have been in training for a few weeks and begin their friendlies at home to Lowland League side Gretna 2008 on Saturday.

Parker added: “They’re another team in the area that has had to reassemble a squad and start again. I know Bryan Gilfillan very well and he’ll be putting 100 per cent effort in.

“It will be competitive, that’s what we’re looking for in all these preseason fixtures. We want it to be competitive.”
