Dan Orlovsky may have been really close to coaching Bryce Young as a member of the Carolina Panthers’ staff. But now, he’s watching him—and he likes what he sees so far.
The former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst was featured on Monday’s episode of The Pac McAfee Show. When asked by host Pat McAfee about this weekend’s performances from the league’s top rookie passers, Orlovsky offered an interesting comment about Young’s debut outing.
“I thought Bryce was really impressive,” Orlovsky said. “I thought just how smooth Bryce operated was impressive. Like, played really fast but never in a hurry.”
Young had every reason to play fast, thanks to an overwhelmed offensive line. He was hit three times over his three drives on Saturday, including a pair of bruising blows on his very first possession.
Nonetheless, Young—who completed four of his six throws for 21 yards—remained cool, calm and collected, something Orlovsky certainly took note of.
“I think my takeaway is they need some guys on third down to go be winners,” he added. “But Bryce was really impressive—just smooth operation-wise.”
