Dan Carmichael has called time on his spell at Threave Rovers.
The former Hibs and Queen of the South winger arrived at Meadow Park two years ago.
But he has now left the Castle Douglas side to take up a player/coach role with Lowland League outfit Gretna 2008.
Threave boss Vinnie Parker said: “He’s a big name, there’s no question about his quality and he’s a joy to watch at times.
“It was always a challenge getting games out of him and it’s a step back up to the Lowland League. They’re paying bigger money and giving him the chance to take their under-19s team as a coach so it was an opportunity he felt he couldn’t pass up.”
Threave began pre-season training on Monday night with their six signings from Dalbeattie Star – Lewis Sloan, Dean Brotherston, Liam Park, Liam Douglas, Dylan Cairney and Lewis Todd – meeting their new team-mates for the first time.
And with just over a month to go until the competitive action begins, Parker isn’t in any rush to bring in any further recruits.
He said: “We’ll get a good look at things over the course of the next few weeks and if we feel we still need to bring another striker in we’ll see what’s out there but I’m pretty confident and happy with what we’ve got just now.
“I’m not in any great rush to hunt anyone down. We’ll wait until things get started and see what we’re like after pre-season games.”
Threave’s pre-season friendlies will begin at Spartans on July 2 before they host Whitehill Welfare on July 9.
A week later Saltcoats Victoria make the trip to Meadow Park before Threave face Newton Stewart on July 20.
And on July 23 they play Maybole juniors in their final friendly.
Parker added: “We did have other options for games but we’d have been squeezing them in and training is just as important at this time of year so those games will cover us.”
They are expected to join the West of Scotland League.
