Dalbeattie Star finally scratched the seven year itch against Cumbernauld Colts on Saturday.
Ritchie Maxwell’s side had returned from six previous trips to Lanarkshire without a point or a goal to show for their efforts.
But they put that right with a fantastic 4-2 win at Broadwood thanks to a late goal spree.
Star thought they’d taken an early lead through Ross Irving but it emerged the ball had already gone out of play.
But midway through the first half Star finally ended their wait for a Broadwood goal when Steven Degnan shot home from Dan Orsi’s cross.
The lead lasted until the break but just after the interval Sean Winter headed the Colts level.
And before the hour mark he put his side in front with a tremendous lob over goalie Darren Holt.
Star rallied and set up an exciting finish when Dan Orsi equalised with little more than 15 minutes left with a fine strike.
Moments later Dylan Cairnie found Orsi with a superb pass and he squared for Russell Currie to tap home.
And a killer fourth arrived 10 minutes from the end when Dean Brotherston headed in Lewis Sloan’s free-kick.
Maxwell was unable to make the came, with coaches Chris Jardine and Robbie Totten in charge.
He said: “I’ve seen the highlights and we scored some very good goals.
“I think our response after their goals was very good and we dominated the last 30 minutes.
“It is good to see the players are still fighting for victories. We have goals set and we want to achieve them.
“Psychologically I think it’s big as going 2-1 down at a place we’ve never scored or won could have gone to the boys heads and we might have let the game filter out.
“The substitutes have had a big part to play - Russell scored one and Lewis set one up – and that’s always a positive.
“We need to make sure we prepare properly and earn the right to win the game. We can’t turn up anywhere and expect to win, we need to earn that right.”
