Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, was held out of a light workout on Friday due to mild soreness in his surgically repaired right ankle. This precautionary measure was taken after a joint workout with the Los Angeles Rams, as the Cowboys prepare to face the Rams in their preseason opener.
Prescott, who is not expected to play in the preseason, is entering the final season of his four-year, $160 million contract. Despite the soreness, he has not missed any time in training camp. Meanwhile, his top receiver, All-Pro CeeDee Lamb, is seeking a new contract with one year left on his rookie deal.
It has been four years since Prescott suffered a serious ankle injury in 2020, and he was seen without a protective boot during the recent practice session in California. Earlier, a photo of Prescott wearing a boot while on vacation in Mexico had circulated on social media, but he clarified that it was merely a precautionary measure.
Last season, Prescott had an impressive performance, finishing as the runner-up in NFL MVP voting. He led the league with 36 touchdown passes and threw for 4,516 yards with just nine interceptions. Despite his strong showing, the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs by the Green Bay Packers in a 48-32 defeat at home.
Dallas has made the playoffs for three consecutive years with a 12-5 record each time but has failed to advance to a conference championship game. As the Cowboys continue their preparations for the upcoming season, Prescott's health remains a key concern for the team's prospects.
