A dad has accused a school of having a 'Dickensian attitude' towards children after he says his 12-year-old son's coat was confiscated.
Aaron Bayley said his son's school took his winter coat off him during freezing temperatures as he was not wearing the jacket specified in the uniform policy, ChronicleLive reports. Under the policy, pupils at Jesmond Park Academy in Newcastle must wear a black Canterbury-branded jacket with the school's logo embroidered on the front.
But after his son Levon was admitted to hospital with suspected Strep A last November and was diagnosed with flu, Aaron sent him to school in his own thick winter coat - a North Face jacket. He said he was told by staff treating his son that the school coat he was wearing before was not suitable.
