Dad's attempt at birthday surprise backfires badly with kids left in floods of tears

A dad's attempt at a birthday surprise ended up backfiring badly leaving kids in floods of tears.

The incident happened in the Chinese city of Huizhou in the province of Guangdong when a dad dressed as 'Ultraman' appeared for a birthday surprise.

But instead of delighting the kids, he ended up terrifying them and footage shows them screaming and trying to hide in floods of tears.

In the first video, he can be seen entering the room dressed as the Japanese superhero, while one boy dressed in the same clothes is seen sitting in a child seat with another youngster next to him.

A woman filming the event rushes over to catch the boy that has climbed from the seat and tries in vain to put the terrified youngster back.

But he refuses and tries to escape and clings onto her after bursting into tears.

The other boy starts crying too, so the woman takes him from the seat, while the first boy, now on the floor hides behind her.

As Ultraman approaches, the two boys are obviously terrified of what is coming towards them, but the woman finds it hilarious and bursts out laughing.

In a second video, the woman can be seen kneeling and still holding the boy, while the other one continues hiding behind her.

At one moment, the frightened boy who is still sobbing runs towards the person recording.

The footage was recorded by the boys' aunt identified only as Ms Chen, and the father's outfit was supposed to be a surprise for his son's birthday.

Parents had planned to take a photo of the Ultraman with both children, but their intention was not successful, because the children were too afraid.

Ultraman is a Japanese superhero and the main character in the Ultraman TV series who has great fighting skills similar to Superman which he uses to protect the universe.

The Mirror told earlier this month how people in China stormed stores and looted food as public anger grew over a harsh lockdown in China.

A clip recorded in Shanghai showed locals brawling with each other after panic-buying turned to looting at a state food supply site.

Residents were also seen knocking down barriers installed by authorities to prevent the city's 26million people moving between streets.

The draconian rules enraging the people of China's largest city include a 22-hour lockdown - with locals forced to stay inside all day apart from a two-hour window when they can collect food and supplies.

Officials have also been separating infected babies and children under seven from their parents to prevent the virus being spread within the family unit.

But the strict measures are doing little to improve surging rates of Omicron in the city - with 23,600 new cases reported by state media.
