Federal investigators have added Georgia, Tennessee and Texas to the multistate Cyclospora outbreak traced to recalled iceberg lettuce, bringing the count to 11,458 illnesses across 20 states about six weeks after the contaminated product was pulled from the market.
Hospitalizations in the outbreak now stand at 495, up from at least 278 counted in early August. Two deaths remain reported, both in Michigan, in people who had significant underlying health conditions and whose illnesses began before the recall.
