Michigan State is back in the Sweet 16 with a good chance at reaching the Final Four.
The Spartans are one of 16 teams still alive. Michigan State, in particular, has a relatively decent chance of making Tom Izzo’s ninth Final Four with a solid draw in the East Region. The Spartans will play No. 3 seed Kansas State on Thursday night. If they win, they will play the winner between No. 4 seed Tennessee and No. 9 FAU in the Elite Eight on Saturday.
Michigan State is listed as a favorite over Kansas State and very well could be favored in the Elite Eight. So does the Spartans Wire staff think Michigan State will reach the Final Four? See our updated picks for each region and who we think will be cutting down the nets in the end:
South Region
Our picks
Andrew Brewster: Alabama
Cory Linsner: Alabama
Robert Bondy: Creighton
Alabama is the majority pick for the Spartans Wire staff, although Robert takes Creighton. The other two teams remaining in the East Region are No. 4 seed San Diego State and No. 15 seed Princeton.
Midwest Region
Our picks
Andrew Brewster: Houston
Cory Linsner: Texas
Robert Bondy: Houston
Someone from the Lone Star State is heading to the Final Four out of the Midwest Region, according to the Spartans Wire staff. Houston and Texas are the two teams we like here. No. 3 seed Xavier and No. 5 seed Miami (FL) are the other teams in the region.
West Region
Our picks
Andrew Brewster: UCLA
Cory Linsner: UConn
Robert Bondy: Gonzaga
It’s a mixed bag in the West Region. Each of us likes a different team to come out of this region. The only team that didn’t get a pick from us was No. 8 seed Arkansas, but I honestly wouldn’t be shocked if it made it out of this region either.
East Region
Our picks
Andrew Brewster: Michigan State
Cory Linsner: Tennessee
Robert Bondy: Michigan State
Two of the Spartans Wire staff like Michigan State to head back to the Final Four. Cory isn’t as confident and is taking Tennessee — but it’s clear this region is up for grabs, and we could certainly see the Spartans reaching Houston.
National Champion
Our picks
Andrew Brewster: Alabama
Cory Linsner: Texas
Robert Bondy: Houston
There is no consensus national championship pick for our staff; each of us picks a different squad to cut down the nets in Houston. All three of the teams we selected have a great chance of going out on top so we will have to wait and see who is the 2023 national champions.
