Crystal Palace charitable foundation aims to surpass fundraising record with Marathon March plan

The Palace for Life Foundation are gearing up for its sixth annual Marathon March.

The fundraising and social event will take place on Saturday, September 24 and encompasses a 26.2-mile walk across south London to raise money for young people within the community. Entrants will start at Selhurst Park before following a route that takes in Croydon, Wallington, Morden, Mitcham, Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Streatham before finishing back at the stadium, where a celebration will be held.

The Marathon March has gone from strength to strength since its initial conception and last year raised more than £100,000 for the Palace for Life Foundation, whose vital work helps the most disadvantaged members of the young south London community and helps. On average, they work with just over 13,000 people each year, inspiring them to find a better path and lead a healthier life through the power of football and the Crystal Palace brand.

Supporters of the club and their families and friends make up the majority of entrants, though the odd Palace legend have been spotted taking part in the past. First-team coach Shaun Derry, head of Under-23 development Mark Bright and even lifelong fan and comedian Eddie Izzard have all embraced the challenge before. Last year even saw new part-owner John Textor donate $10,000 to one group of fans participating in the challenge.

Those that take part will receive a free t-shirt and finishers medal as well as a training programme created by Palace fan and personal trainer Beulah Pickles. Entrants also receive dedicated fundraising and training support throughout the build-up to the event, along with your own fundraising page to help you raise as much as possible.
