Crude Prices Edge Higher on Dollar Weakness and Decline in US Oil Rigs to 3-1/2 Year Low

July WTI crude oil (CLN25) Friday closed up +0.33 (+0.54%) and July RBOB gasoline (RBN25) closed down -0.0169 (-0.81%).

Crude oil and gasoline prices on Friday settled mixed, with gasoline sliding to a 1-week low.  Crude prices recovered from a 2-week low Friday and moved higher as the dollar index (DXY00) tumbled to a 3-week low.  Crude prices also garnered support Friday from better-than-expected global economic news, a positive factor for energy demand.  Crude prices maintained their gains Friday after Baker Hughes reported that active US oil rigs fell to a 3-1/2 year low, a harbinger of lower future US crude production.
