One of Newcastle's oldest and best-loved pubs has made it into a photography book celebrating the country's best boozers.
Victorian favourite Crown Posada, on The Side, is highlighted in the new book - Great Pubs of England - which reveals 33 of the country's most notable and distinctive watering holes. The traditional pub, which was reopened by the Ladhar Group in December 2021 after almost two years of pandemic closure, is unique in the city - a fact recognised by the book's authors Horst A. Friedrichs and travel journalist Stuart Husband.
The hardback, due to be published by Prestel on October 4, brings together the 33 stand-out pubs in what is described as more of a virtual pub crawl than a travel guide "which documents and memorialises an important and rapidly-changing aspect of Britain’s national heritage". The Crown Posada, famed for its original stained glass windows, was revamped ahead of its reopening with delighted regulars returning to find it retained original appeal and familiar look of wood panelling, ornate coving and wall lamps.
