Cristiano Ronaldo Jnr has left Manchester United following the termination of his dad's contract at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese star gave an explosive interview in mid-December that ended with he and his now former club opting to sever ties. His son, Cristiano, was playing in the club's academy but has since left and rejoined Real Madrid's youth ranks, where he has previously played.
Cristiano Jnr's youth career has largely mirrored his father's - moving from Madrid to Juventus and then Manchester. He's now back at Los Blancos, where his father had been training in order to remain in shape as he looks for a new employer at the age of 37.
Ronaldo had previously underlined his hopes and aspirations for his son back in 2016: "I want my son to be a player. I am a footballer and I want him to be one too. I think he has something of an athlete about him. He has athletic characteristics. Obviously he is very young, a baby, he's only five, but he loves football. That is a big plus.
"I have 30 balls at home. He is always with the ball and he loves it. But I will not force him to be a player because it comes naturally. It has to be his choice. He will be whatever he wants to be, I am not going to push him at all. But obviously I want Cristiano to be a player. A top one, like his dad."
Cristiano Jnr had also previously called on his dad to remain playing so that they could grace the pitch together. He said in 2019: "Cristianinho puts pressure on me sometimes and says: 'Dad, keep playing for a few more years so we can play together.' It's going to be difficult, even if I still have a few years to give…"
Ronaldo had been looking for a way out of Manchester in the summer, but was unable to secure an exit with few buyers coming forward. The likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich were linked, but neither opted to push through with their interest and it appears there are few options six months later.
As a result a move to the Middle East could now be on the cards. Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr are prepared to offer mouthwatering sums that will see the five-time Ballon d'Or winner finish out his career away from Europe.
The deal offered looks to be a seven-year package that will see him earn over £1bn and sit top of the sport's rich list. Ronaldo will play for two-and-a-half seasons before taking up an ambassadorial role with Saudi Arabia set to bid for the World Cup in 2030.
