Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has taken to social media to issue his response to Antonio Conte’s remarkable post-match rant on Saturday. During a furious 10-minute outburst, the Spurs manager brandished his players "unacceptable" and "selfish" after the north Londoners let a 3-1 lead slip against Southampton.
The Italian claimed there was a rotten culture at Tottenham, and that the club needs to “change this situation” or the manager as he continues to flirt with the sack. Responding to the various accusations, Romero shared his love for his fellow Spurs players on social media in a not-so-discreet response.
He chose to defend his teammates, adding they will never stop giving their all for the club. “There are many things to improve, but we will not get tired of trying, we will get up and try again,” he posted.

“I love the players of my team, I love them and my club, I know that we are going to move forward and the time and work of all together will tell us where we will go. I’ve been here for a short time, but we’re going to be together to achieve important things, more years may pass but we’ll try.”
Romero opted not to mention the coaching staff in his message, instead defending the players following Conte’s blistering rant on Saturday evening. This all came after Spurs let their commanding 3-1 advantage against the Premier League’s bottom side Southampton slip with just 15 minutes to play.
After ex-Arsenal man Theo Walcott reduced the deficit to 3-2, James Ward-Prowse’s penalty in injury time sealed the hosts’ comeback. Tottenham’s collapse at St Mary’s seemed to take Conte’s brutally honest approach to a whole new level, as his anger only intensified with each question posed by the disbelieving journalists.
Conte had not even said a word to his players before he made his way to the press conference room for what would become a furious and emotional-filled monologue about every aspect of the club. The Italian’s contract at the club expires this summer, but he appears intent on forcing Daniel Levy into a decision to cut ties sooner.
Jamie Carragher believes this latest blistering tirade is the final straw for Conte’s Spurs tenure, and has urged Levy to pull the plug now. "Conte wants to be sacked in this international break," the former Liverpool defender tweeted. "Spurs should just put him out of his misery and do it tonight."
