Gardai have confirmed that a criminal investigation has been launched into the fatal car fire that killed two siblings in Westmeath.
Two-year-old Mikey Dennany and five-year-old Thelma Dennany both died after the shocking incident in Multyfarnham last Friday.
Their mother, Lynn Egar, remains in hospital after she was pulled from the burning car by a passer-by.

A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí at Mullingar are carrying out a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of two-year-old Mikey Dennany and five-year-old Thelma Dennany in a fatal car fire at Lacken, Multyfarnham, County Westmeath on Friday, September 9, 2022.
"An Garda Síochána continue to appeal to any person with any information in relation to this fatal incident to contact them.
"In particular Investigating Gardaí are appealing for any road users or other persons who were in the in the Lacken, Multyfarnham area on Friday 9th September between 2pm and 4pm who has any video footage (dashcam or other form) to make that footage available to the investigation team.
"A Garda family liaison officer continues to keep the family updated at this time."

The Irish Mirror has established that investigators probing Friday night’s horrific fire in Co Westmeath also believe they know who carried out the attack.
A source said last night: “There is one suspect.”
Officers were initially satisfied that Ms Egar’s vehicle did not go on fire as a result of a crash with another vehicle. But they could not say on Friday if the blaze was a result of arson or another kind of accident.
The Garda Technical Bureau has spent all weekend examining the car and the scene where it went on fire.
