Botanic residents are coming up against businesses and an arts centre over a request to close Crescent Park at night.
Belfast City Council heard deputations this week from residents as well as representatives from the Crescent Arts Centre and local business, over a request to gate the small but popular public green located between Botanic Avenue and University Road, due to antisocial behaviour and night-time noise.
At the council’s People and Communities Committee at City Hall, a resident and representative from the community association 'Friends of the Crescent' spoke in favour of a night-time gate, while representatives from the Crescent Arts Centre and local business spoke against closing the park. The committee agreed to defer any decision on the gate for further consultation with the public.
