Cowboys Running Back Responds to Receiving Two-Game PED Suspension

After receiving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s PED policy, Cowboys running back Ronald Jones shared his thoughts on the punishment in a message on social media Monday night.

Jones, who signed with Dallas as a free agent in March, addressed his situation on Twitter in a tweet in which the 25-year-old claimed he “never knowingly” took any banned substances. Jones also said he would “never cheat” the game he loves before vowing to “investigate” the matter to avoid future issues.

Wrote Jones, “I love this game and would never cheat it. I would never knowingly take a banned substance. I will continue to work with my team to investigate how this happened so that it never happens again.”

Entering his sixth NFL season, Jones’s training camp battle for a backup role behind Tony Pollard could suffer a big blow with him now set to miss the start of his first campaign with the Cowboys.

It’s unclear at this time if Jones plans to appeal, but should the suspension hold up, the veteran back would miss matchups against the Giants and Jets in Weeks 1 and 2. His next opportunity to rejoin the team would come in Week 3 against the Cardinals.

A second-round pick by the Buccaneers in 2018, Jones spent the '22 season with the Chiefs following a four-year stint in Tampa Bay. He compiled 17 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown in six appearances for the eventual Super Bowl LVII champions.
