BHOPAL: Covid hospitalisations in Madhya Pradesh up 3 times in 9 days
On June 10, there were only 10 Covid patients in hospital, five of whom were in ICU/HDU. But on June 19, Covid hospitalisations had risen to 31 across the state. Twelve of them are in isolation beds, five on oxygen and 14 in ICUs/HDUs, says the government's Sarthak portal.
There have been three Covid deaths in less than four weeks, the most recent being on June 18 when a 55-year-old Jabalpur woman, who was battling multiple ailments, died. The two others were on May 24 in Indore and on June 4 in Jabalpur.
The positivity rate has risen from 0.5% to close to 1% during this month. In June, 953 new Covid infections have been detected so far - an average of 50 a day. This is at least 33% more than what was reported in May, which recorded 1,123 cases in the entire month. Health officials acknowledge there is a slow but unmistakable rise in Covid infections and consequent hospitalisations. However, severity of infections is far lower and majority of those hospitalized were already in the high-risk category due to comorbidities.
"It is thus important for people to take appropriate precautions and go for precaution doses if they are eligible," said a health official.
