PUNE: The death rate in those with hybrid immunity — natural infection followed by vaccination — is the lowest among all Covid casualties, an analysis by the state’s Medical Education and Drug Department (MEDD) has shown.
The department studied 4,598 admissions and 278 deaths at 24 state-run medical colleges in Maharashtra over 52 days — from December 1 to January 21. Of these 4,598 Covid admissions, 2,534 were “naive” (neither vaccinated nor with history of Covid infection); 1,899 were those with breakthrough infections after first or second doses of the vaccine; 74 patients were cases of reinfection (but not vaccinated); and 91 patients had reinfection as well as breakthrough infection.
