Covid cases rise across UK as 1.7m people estimated to have had the virus last week

Covid-19 infections are continuing to rise within the UK, figures show.

According to reports, the virus is rising within all four nations, with the increase likely to be driven by the latest Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5.

It has been suggested that the virus is becoming steadily more prevalent as the number of people in hospital with Covid is also on an upward trend in most parts of the country.
