Couples could be due £1,220 tax return from HMRC - just by being together

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs have revealed that almost 1.8 MILLION couples are missing out on a tax return that could help them save up to £252 a year in Income Tax.

As reported by the Daily Record, married couples and those in civil partnerships can share their personal tax allowances under the Marriage Allowance scheme, as long as one person earns under their personal allowance threshold of £12,750, and the other is a starter, basic or intermediate rate taxpayer.

This means that the taxpayer can transfer 10 per cent of their allowance to their partner, which is £1,260 for this current financial year of 2021/22.
