The Hassan police have cracked the murder of a woman reported at Cholangala village in Channarayapatna on March 26 and arrested her son and daughter-in-law on charges of murder.
The accused Ravikumar and Pushpa allegedly murdered Sharadamma, 53, and created the scene to show it was a robbery. However, the preliminary investigation revealed that the husband and wife murdered her as they were upset with her repeated comments about not having children even five years of the marriage. Both were arrested and remanded to judicial custody on Monday.
Sharadamma was found murdered late in the night on March 26. Ravikumar was the one who complained to the police alleging that his mother was found murdered and valuables and ₹78,000 in cash were missing. At that time, he had claimed that he along with his wife and father had been to consult a doctor as he had a severe stomach ache.
However, during the investigation, it was revealed that the couple murdered Sharadamma and created the scene to term it a robbery. They committed the murder when Balaram, Sharadamma’s husband was not at home. As he reached home, Ravikumar and Pushpa took him also along with them to the clinic, without letting him inside. The police initially took it as a suspected case of murder. Later during the investigation, they doubted the couple’s role in the criminal act.
Hassan Superintendent of Police R. Srinivasa Gowda informed the media that the accused had been arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
