A pub boasting some of the best views of Greater Manchester has reopened its doors after a major refurbishment. The Hare & Hounds, in Hyde, was closed for several weeks for a six-figure makeover which has modernised the entire site.
Just less than 10 miles from Manchester city centre and sitting at the edge of Werneth Low Country Park, the country pub, found just off a narrow country road, occupies a stunning Pennine location, and provides a gateway to the Peak District beyond. On a clear day, the idyllic spot offers panoramic views over five counties.
The beautiful spot, which is part of the Chef and Brewer Collection of country pubs, was originally built in 1728. Many of its original features, including its exposed beams and cosy nooks, have been kept in tact but given a contemporary refresh.

On entering the pub, regulars will notice that the garden terrace has been modernised to include a new outside bar area, as well as a heated pergola, providing an al fresco dining offering to be enjoyed come rain or shine.
Inside, the pub has had a complete makeover, with new furniture, furnishings and fittings throughout. Timed to coincide with the relaunch, the pub is also serving up a brand new spring menu, which includes a selection of daily specials and a broad choice of alcoholic drinks, cocktails and soft drinks.
The refreshed menu includes dishes such as Korean BBQ bites, creamy garlic mushrooms and crispy salt and pepper squid, alongside main dishes likes steaks, burgers and Atlantic cod with chips. Pub classics including gammon, lasagne, and steak and ale pie also feature, and sit alongside sweet treats like sticky toffee pudding, apple tart and chocolate brownie.
Helen Watters, General Manager of The Hare & Hounds, said: “With summer just around the corner, we couldn’t be more excited to show off our newly refurbished pub to guests both old and new. There’s never been a better time to enjoy premium al fresco dining in our new look garden terrace and take in the stunning views.
“Being located in the beautiful countryside, but a stone’s throw away from Manchester city centre, makes us the perfect spot to pop in for a drink and try our premium pub food after a walk around the local area, or a hike through the nearby country trails. We can’t wait to welcome our guests back through our doors.”
As part of the investment, The Hare & Hounds team are also recruiting, with both full and part time positions available for front of house, kitchen staff and management. Those wishing to apply can do so by emailing the pub directly.
With an unrivalled skyline view of the city of Manchester, and located close to Etherow Country Park, the pub offers something for everyone. For daytrippers, there’s more than 80 hectares of moorland to explore just along the road. Established in 1980, the country park is a haven for wildlife and boasts many walks and trails for all levels and abilities.
