Country music star shares new look after 70lb weight loss journey

Country star Nate Smith has revealed he has shed 70 pounds after making several lifestyle changes.

The “Whiskey on You” singer, 40, recently told People at a Sports Illustrated and Tight End University event in Nashville that he wants to continue his weight loss journey until he reaches his goal.

“I think I want to get under 200 pounds,” Smith told the outlet at the June 23 event. “So I was like 275 lbs., somewhere in that world. But I want to get down to like 185 pounds again.”

Smith said that his weight loss — which he achieved by changing his eating and drinking habits — has made him better at “keeping the energy on stage and making sure I do that, because I think that takes care of the fans.”

He said the change makes him feel more comfortable in his clothes, explaining: “I just feel better. It's nice to be able to wear clothes that I like.” He went on to explain that he can now wear size large clothing instead of double X, which he had been sporting for the last five or six years.

“I don't sweat anymore, which is amazing,” he said. “I used to be totally out of breath tying my shoes. I can jump around a lot more.”

Smith — who rose to fame after his song “Wildfire” went viral on TikTok in 2020 — previously said that he began to focus on changing his eating and drinking habits in November 2024 after a severe upper respiratory infection caused him to reflect on his health.

He told People in 2025, “I knew I was hurting myself, but I couldn't stop. It was like looking at this mountain and wondering, ‘How do I get up there?’ I didn't even know where to start.”

The “Bulletproof” singer now drinks less, consumes more protein, and has reduced his daily caloric intake. He said that he went from 280 pounds to 225 pounds within just four months of making the lifestyle changes.

Smith is not the only country singer who has undergone a weight loss journey in recent years. Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, has used social media to document his weight loss goals and milestones since 2024.

The “Somebody Save Me” singer has lost more than 275 pounds by exercising and changing his eating habits. During a January interview with Men’s Health, he shared that he worked with a therapist to help treat his “food addiction” in the same way an alcohol or drug addiction would be treated.
