Donald Trump returned to Mobile, Alabama, on Friday, 2 October, to rally support for Republican candidates ahead of the US midterm elections. Photographs from his appearance at the University of South Alabama's Mitchell Center showed rows of empty seats behind the president and sparsely occupied sections of the upper level.
The images, credited to Reuters photographer Jessica Koscielniak and published by the Daily Beast, drew attention to attendance in a state that has backed Trump in all three of his presidential elections. The appearance came as Republicans sought to retain control of Congress in the 3 November elections.
