Countdown's Rachel Riley was 'ill for 10 years' as she blasts 'useless doctors' for oversight

Countdown's Rachel Riley has candidly opened up about her decade-long health battle which left her "feeling ill" for 10 years and it wasn't until she and her Strictly star husband Pasha Kovalev made a decision to tackle it themselves that her life improved.

The television presenter, 34, explained how it was a simple fix to her diet which made a difference to her health, as she detailed in a new interview how going vegan was what finally relieved her of the debilitating symptoms after so many years.

Rachel spoke about how both she and her husband Pasha, 43, made the transition in their diets and took the decision to remove animal products from consumption back in 2018 after she was left feeling "ill with food."

During the interview with the MailOnline, Rachel said "there were loads of reasons" for the drastic change in diet but ultimately the decision came as she was left feeling so unwell by eating everyday products.

She said: "I was ill for over ten years and the doctors were quite useless about it and I gave up some foods and was literally so much better overnight.

"I didn't realise how bad I was feeling until I wasn't feeling bad."

The couple started off by removing only eggs and dairy from their diets originally, before they made the move to dine out at vegan restaurants when they realised the "food was really good."

"We realised the food was really good and we didn't have to eat meat and then we gave up fish," Rachel added and said whilst pregnant her diet could be maintained with food supplements instead.

Meanwhile, former Strictly Come Dancing star Rachel has said that the romantic side of her relationship with her husband Pasha Kovalev is "on hold" at the moment.

The pair first met when they were coupled together for the BBC show back in 2013 before going on to tie the knot in 2019 and having two kids in quick succession shortly after.

Feeling the mounting pressures of parenthood and having two young kids under four, Rachel said their young tots are the priority just now and the pair won't be going on romantic dates together until she stops breastfeeding their youngest daughter Noa, who is 18 months old.

During the interview with the Mirror, Rachel said: “All the romance and dates… we just kind of put a pin in it. We’re both quite patient and we know that once Noa is off the boob, we’ll get there again.”
