A councillor has urged council officials to step in and clear up eyesore lock-ups in a Renfrewshire village.
Independent councillor Andy Doig was shown the issue in East End, Lochwinnoch, which is home to around seven council-owned lock-ups, by a local resident.
And he said he was shocked to find two are totally wrecked.

Councillor Doig said: “Recently a constituent was kind enough to show me the council lock-ups just off East End, Lochwinnoch, which is across the road from the historic Auld Simon clocktower, at the bottom of the Johnshill.
“There are around seven lock-ups in total and most are OK, but two have been totally wrecked, be it from vandalism or neglect, I am not sure but this is just not on.
“I wrote to officers on this because I know that they are doing a survey of all the council lock-ups in Johnstone to see how many are fit for purpose, so I would assume that the villages lock ups will also being included in this.
“I was frankly appalled at the state of two of them at the East End, it is simply not acceptable, especially near to a historic graveyard and listed building.”
Councillor Doig said he’s concerned the poor state of the lock-ups could lead to bigger problems for local residents.
“There are a number of risks here in leaving them as they are,” he added. “Firstly, there is the risk of attracting vandalism and the lock up site is enclosed by residential properties, secondly, there could be the risk of vermin also, with a similar risk to nearby residents.
“If the lock ups have not been abandoned, and are still rented, I want the Council to immediate instruct the two renters to either remove their property to allow for repair or if need be for the council to demolish them.”
A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said they were looking into the issue.
He said: “We are investigating this matter and will take the necessary steps to resolve the issue, including contacting tenants to remind them of their responsibility to maintain their rented site appropriately.”
