Ryan Connor is currently coming to terms with his injuries after being attacked with acid on Daisy Midgeley's wedding day but his mother Michelle Connor has yet to pay her son a visit.
During Wednesday's episode, Michelle ( Kym Marsh ) stepped in as Ryan's (Ryan Prescott) condition worsened, making it clear she was going to be with him every step of the way.
In the wake of the acid attack, Carla's (Alison King) relationship with Ryan has been explored and during a hospital visit she told Ryan she's spoken to his mother about his recent bout of sepsis.
"I promised your mum I wouldn't let you out of my sight from here on out," Carla vowed.
Coronation Street fans picked up on the reference to Michelle and questioned whether she would be returning in light of her son's condition.
One tweeted: "Carla promised Ryan's 'mother' she'd look after him....yes of course. Michelle is so worried, she can't be bothered to even surface with a new face #Corrie," while another wrote: "Surely Michelle would’ve visited Ryan by now? The scriptwriters could write a visit off screen? #corrie."
"Michelle the most useless mother not bothered about her son being in hospital. What mother doesn’t drop everything to be there? #corrie #coronationstreet," a third said and another added: "Carla, 'I promised your mam'!! The mam called Michelle that’s not bothered to come see her son?!!! #Corrie."
However, another fan pointed out Carla's understandable close connection to Ryan and said: "People forget Ryan IS family to Carla. She was his aunt and BF to his mum Michelle and when he was growing up, Carla and Paul doted on Ryan #Corrie #CoronationStreet @itvcorrie."
After the acid attack, it was mentioned Michelle was unable to return to the UK due to an operation.
Kym addressed a potential return to the ITV soap during an appearance on Loose Women.
"I do love the show so much," she said. "It gave me my start and I will always love it from the bottom of my heart, but at the moment I've been so lucky that I'm working and busy, and I've got too much to do yet, before Michelle."
