Ryan actually had his first big soap role in Emmerdale in 2011, where he joined as Flynn Buchanan, a love interest for Aaron Dingle. He had also appeared in Holby City as well as Doctors and Casualty amongst others.

Ryan was subjected to hate when he bagged the role, with people constantly comparing him to his successors.
"I've had a few ... you always get the occasional Facebook message. There's always haters out there," he said previously of what was going on, "Nothing too crazy but people give their opinion. Someone will say something like 'I much preferred the other Ryan or something like that. I never reply. That's where people go wrong."

However, there is set to be a twist as he and Daisy Midgeley are going to fall for each other, whilst Daisy is still with her fiancé Daniel Osbourne. The pair have bonded after Daisy supported Ryan's recovery.
"There are different ways it can go but it does get very complicated. There’s this thing that happens when you endure extreme trauma with someone, it kind of bonds you together," Ryan shared of what was to come.
Daisy added to Metro : "It's going to be a really confusing time for Daisy. She’s brushed her own recovery under the rug and is really focusing on Ryan. She feels responsible for him so her feelings are going to get really messy and she’s going to get confused it’s going to get quite chaotic. Then the story may morph into a 'can you love two people at once?' storyline."
